Eye-witness accounts of the 9-Feb demonstration in Islamabad
I haven’t yet found the time to write down my impressions, but I saw pretty much the same things as described here and here.
Differences/additions: I managed to contain my rage after the “smoke bomb” and stopped myself from throwing stones. I also saw one elderly gentleman actually going forward, picking up a tear gas shell with his bare hand and chucking it back towards the police. Then there were some other people who tried to douse the shells with water. One of my colleagues who accompanied me from Lahore later told me that he saw some people actually trying to protect those behind them by catching incoming stones and bricks with their bare hands - cricket style! Then there was a friend of ours who spent 15 minutes in the midst of the gas released by the smoke bomb looking for his friend who had been heard crying out that he could not see. Then there were the young women lawyers, beating their chest and calling out “hai Yazid, hai Musharraf”, right in front of the police and within range of their stones. Their passion forced me to face my fear of the tear gas and at least join the counter-swarm. While we were retreating in stages, two women (one from SAC Islamabad) joined with another girl from SAC Lahore and remained in the vanguard, chanting slogans and putting many men to shame with their guts.
